For long, Mac users have been able to experience Windows on their machines, thanks to Parallels for Mac application. However, Parallels seems unprepared to support Windows 8 upgrade on Mac machines and has advised Mac users against upgrading to the new operating system from earlier versions.
Over the past few months, Parallels has been able to make a lot of progress in enabling Mac users to get a true Windows experience on their Mac machines. For instance, when the company released its software for Windows 7, it enabled the users to buy Windows from within the app.
However, the software can’t handle Windows 8 as of yet. The company has specifically issued a warning to Mac users, advising them not to upgrade to Windows 8 from an existing Windows OS in the virtual environment.
The statement of the warning reads, “If you are planning on upgrading from an existing Windows OS to Windows 8, we strongly suggest waiting until Parallels has finalized testing the upgrade process.”
In case you are a Mac user and don’t heed this warning, it may “damage your virtual machine, causing you to lose all your data, files and Windows applications” as per the software maker. Naturally, the delay is only temporary and Parallels promises that it would soon come up with an upgraded version of its software to address the technical issues Windows 8 poses.
If you are trying to install Windows 8 into a new virtual machine, that shouldn’t pose any problem. However, this virtual machine must be created with the help of Parallels Desktop 8.
