Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. unit Alibaba Cloud Computing is developing an operating system for mobile phones that it aims to release in the third quarter, a person close to the situation said Monday, as a range of companies battle to provide the core software used on smartphones. The Alibaba offering will add to the competition in China for Google Android operating system, Apple iPhone smartphones and Microsoft Windows Phone platform. The move also seems to mark a new direction for Alibaba Group, as the company has made software before but is best known for operating online-commerce websites. The Alibaba operating system will offer cloud-based services such as applications that the user can access on a remote server instead of downloading them to the phone, the person said. Users of iPhone and Android handsets usually download apps to their devices. The initial version of the operating system will target the China market, but there is “nothing that prevents it from being used elsewhere eventually,” the person said. Details weren’t available on the pricing of the operating system and its apps, or on which handset makers will use the software. But the person said smartphone usage in China could broaden if Alibaba achieves its goals with the project. Many software and handset makers have offered their own operating systems partly so buyers will also use and pay for applications that work on those systems. Similarly, Alibaba could use its operating system to promote apps for online commerce, potentially boosting other Alibaba Group units: Alibaba.com Ltd., which operates websites connecting buyers and suppliers, and consumer-focused commerce websites Taobao Marketplace and Taobao Mall. Alibaba‘s move comes as top Chinese search provider Baidu Inc. has hinted it could also be developing a mobile operating system. Baidu says it aims to develop software that lets users of devices like smartphones perform a wide range of online activities by typing commands into a search box.

When publishing that OS and it’s to user preferable or not that first need. Also the Android application and windows os are more better to develop application and run any of the platforms.
