When it comes to wearable tech, only a few gadgets have been able to gain significant traction until now. Among these is the Pebble smartwatch, which had a field run on KickStarter and became one of the most successful funds crowdsourcing campaigns. Now, rumor has it that the smartwatch is landing on Best Buy soon.
Pebble is already immensely successful in its KickStarter campaign; the company was able to land a whopping 85,000 pre-orders. Soon after, the team received $15 million in funding from Charles River Ventures, showing that the investors are very hopeful with the smartwatch.
Now, certain sources within Best Buy reveal that the smartwatch will soon be made available on the e-retail giant. According to the screenshots leaked by a Best Buy employee, the product will be available in the ‘digital communications’ section under the ‘appcessories’ category.
If indeed the Pebble smartwatch becomes available on Best Buy, it will be an immense success. Wearable computers are finally gaining popularity, with a number of top vendors jumping the fray with their own offerings. Google is already leading the way with ‘Google Glass’ while Apple recently filed for the ‘iWatch’ trademark which may hint that Apple is also working on a smartwatch of its own.
The reports suggest that the Pebble smartwatch will become available on Best Buy from today. We will be able to ascertain the veracity of these reports by the end of this week.
