How to Install Ubuntu on HTC Evo 4G

In the recent time, hackers have been successful to hack high end mobile phones to run different operating systems. Some hackers had ported Android and Ubuntu to iPhone, HTC HD2 and Nexus One……..

HTC EVO 4G has already been hacked to run Ubuntu Linux. But why you need to run Ubuntu when you already have stable android running flawlessly on your device? Well, there may be certain cases where you feel need of installing Ubuntu Linux on your HTC EVO. For instance, your HTC EVO phone can become a portable test web server to test out new designs for web designers.

Well, after nexus one to have been rooted with Ubuntu support, it’s the first 4G Android handset HTC EVO 4G which got the same. The guys at htcevohacks.com actually recompiled the Kernel which was used to make Ubuntu run over Nexus One, and made it run over HTC EVO 4G for latter to not having support for loop devices.

It did not took them much to make it happen rather a one line of code did the trick, and made the new modified kernel flashed over EVO 4G resulting in Ubuntu running over the device.

In order to port Ubuntu Linux you need to root your EVO 4G first and then flash modified Kernel with Loop Devices Support. Braniac Max has posted complete tutorial on how to install Ubuntu linux on Sprint’s HTC EVO 4G. If you are real geek and nerd and know what you are doing, then you may follow the process.

The Nexus One hacker has now ported Ubuntu to Sprint’s HTC EVO 4G. Sprint’s EVO 4G runs on Android OS, but enthusiasts can also try the Ubuntu OS on their phones with this hack.

Htcevohacks.com also suggests using the trick of recompiling the sources [the kernel] to make bootubuntu script run over other android devices also which don’t support loop devices.
