Ever since Samsung’s Galaxy Note has garnered significant success, many have turned their attention to the niche market of large-screen smartphone-tablet hybrids, or phablets, as they are popularly called. It seems that Huawei is also working on an 8.5-inch phablet.
Samsung has been upping the ante on the display size of its Galaxy Note devices. Galaxy Note II features a larger display compared to original Galaxy Note and it remains to be seen whether Samsung will continue increasing the screen size in the upcoming models.
Huawei is also rumored to be gearing up to enter the phablet market with a 8.5-inch phablet. The company hasn’t yet confirmed such a device, but Eldar Murtazin mentioned in a recent tweet that he has been able to lay his hands on one during a Huawei event. He also posted an picture of the said smartphone.
What is rather absurd about this is that why would a company want to create an 8.5-inch smartphone? Imagine such a huge handset and then imagine trying to make or a receive a call on it. That would look plain ridiculous. As a smartphone alone, any 8.5-inch device is bound to have a very limited use.
At best, it could be pitched as a tablet. We are not yet sure whether or not such a device is indeed real and if so, what Huawei plans to do with it. So we will take this info about the 8.5-inch smartphone with a pinch of salt for now.
