LG G2 Promotional Event Goes Wrong, Seven Hospitalized

When you don’t think a stunt through, chances are that you will end up hurting yourself or others or both. LG recently brought together a promotional event for its G2 smartphone in Seoul, South Korea, but the event went horribly wrong when people arrived with BB pistols and knives to participate in it.

The company released helium balloons into the air, each of them containing a voucher for a free smartphone. A total of 100 such balloons were released into the air in a park in Seoul. The plan was to let the customers somehow get to the balloons and grab the vouchers. Every customer who grabbed the voucher would then be entitled to a free smartphone.

However, things went horribly wrong when people arrived with BB pistols and knives propped atop sticks to get to the balloons. So as soon as the company released the balloons, they started shooting and shoving with knives, trying to take a go at the balloons.

All this mess ended up hurting some 20 people, out of which seven had to be hospitalized. A statement, released by LG soon after the incident, reads, “LG Electronics deeply regrets that a number of Korean participants were injured during an outdoor promotional event in Seoul, Korea.”

The company has cancelled its other planned LG G2 promotional events and further stated, “We can confirm that seven participants were hospitalized and, although none of the injuries were serious, LG takes full responsibility for the unfortunate situation and has offered to cover all related medical expenses. LG is investigating the incident to ensure that such an occurrence can be avoided in the future.”
