Apple has already unveiled it’s third tablet, the new iPad. The tablet is expect to his the shelves on March 16th which will also be the day when those who have been successful in getting a pre-order may receive their purchase. An analyst from Piper Jaffray and Co. has now stated that Apple will sell more than a million new iPad units on the very first day of sales!
That seems an exceptionally huge figure but then, Apple has a knack of breaking its previous records every now and then. When Apple launched the original iPad, it sold 300,000 units on the day first. And it took the company nearly a month to cross the 1 million sales mark. With the launch of iPad 2, the same was achieved within a few days.
At this pace, it is not too far-fetched to assume that Apple may now be able to ship out a million units right on the first day of launch. Especially, we also have to consider the fact that the demand for iPad has only grown over time and millions of more users have been added to the tablet market since the days of the original iPad. All this may contribute to bolster the sales figures of the new iPad on day first to all new heights.
Gene Munster, from Piper Jaffray who stated these figures as part of his analysis, apparently based his figures on the sales iPhone 4 witnessed within it’s first three days. According to Gene, when Apple decided to launch iPhone 4, it had already sold 50 million iPhone devices around the world. But that didn’t stop Apple from selling 1.7 million iPhone 4 within the first three days. So, Munster argues, “Given the new iPad will be sold in 12 countries on 3/16, we are confident the company will sell over 1 (million) on launch day.”
