Its not easy watching a cool, and new, gadget go down in ruins. It is worse still to destroy something like the new iPad willingly and intentionally. But then if it is done to compare the ‘strength’ of a device, perhaps its not all that bad. Folks over at SquareTrade carried out a test comparing the durability of the new iPad against iPad 2 by..well…dropping them mercilessly from different heights. The video of the ‘test’ is posted below.
To be fairly accurate in estimating the durability of the two tablets relative to each other, the test was carried out by dropping them first from waist height, and then from shoulder height.
Also, first each tablet was dropped face up. Then, they were dropped face down to gauge the extent of damage the screen suffers when facing direct impact. The results of the drop-test seem quite interesting. According to the final verdict given after the tests, the fellows carrying out the test concluded that ‘The iPad 2 screen shattered badly. But not as bad as the new iPad’ whereas ‘The new iPad screen almost popped off and suffered much more damage.’
Apparently, having a Retina display on the new iPad also means that your new iPad gets to be more fragile than iPad 2, despite being heavier. But then, we are not sure not making of you will be falling your tablets face up or face down to test their durability.
