Apple Tops $10 Billion In 2013 App Store Sales

Apple has broken quite a few tech records in the past few years. Marching forth, the company has now reported that its App Store sales went past $10 billion in 2013.

According to the official figures released by Apple, a total of three billion apps were downloaded in December, 2013 alone. This is the highest number of apps downloaded in a single month which brought the total of App Store December sales to a whopping $1 billion.

The company took the occasion to cite the total number of apps its online marketplace offers, “The revolutionary App Store offers more than one million apps to iPhone®, iPad® and iPod touch® users in 155 countries around the world, with more than 500,000 native iPad apps available. App Store customers can choose from an incredible range of apps in 24 categories.”

Commenting on the milestone, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services stated, “We’d like to thank our customers for making 2013 the best year ever for the App Store. The lineup of apps for the holiday season was astonishing and we look forward to seeing what developers create in 2014.”

A major transition for the App Store in 2013 came when Apple unveiled iOS 7. Developers were quick to launch apps for the new and redesigned iOS version, leveraging the accentuated graphics of iOS 7. This includes ‘Evernote, Yahoo!, AirBnB, OpenTable, Tumblr, Pinterest, American Airlines’ as well as a number of other major companies.
