PC sales and profits have nosedived in the past few years and most PC vendors have either started producing mobile devices or run into losses. Sony is now shutting down its PC division to focus on more profitable areas such as PlayStation.
When it comes to smartphones, Sony has rooted for Android till the deep end. Despite no significant success, Sony continues to create Android-based handsets. But the company has now hinted that it may try its hands at other alternatives.
Online game streaming services have turned from once being whimsical ventures to stable, profit-making hits in the last few years. Sony is about to join the rush, annnouncing that its game-streaming ‘PlayStation Now’ is coming in summer this year.
Sony and Microsoft were both fairly eager to share their console sales figures with the public at CES 2014. Sony announced that it had sold 4.2 million PlayStation 4 units before 2013 concluded.
Although Sony has called it quits on the US smartphone market, the company’s Sony Z Ultra handset has landed on the Play store. Unlocked and contract-free, the handset packs a massive 6.4-inch display.
Sony has sold more than one million units of the PlayStation 4 within the first 24 hours after it had became available in the United States and Canada.
Electronics tend to be really expensive when they are made available in Brazil, compared to their international prices elsewhere. Same is the case with Sony’s PlayStation 4. Sony is retailing the console for a whopping $1853 in Brazil which is nearly four times its price in the US.
Sony is showing off several new computers at the IFA consumer-electronics show in Berlin. Among them Sony’s last big announcement for the day is the VAIO Tap 21, an aluminum-clad version of the original Vaio Tap 20 launched last year.
