Mozilla’s open-source mobile operating system has been journeying through the regions, and Africa is next on the list. A recent announcement made by Mozilla confirms the news.
Starting their journey by entering South Africa, Mozilla’s Firefox OS ecosystem has gained approval and support of three major key partners of the region: Airtel, MTN South Africa and Tigo, and they are working together to bring the first Firefox OS smartphones to Africa. Reportedly, their OS supports and focuses on HTML5 and open Web APIs.
The expansion was slowly taking place in major markets of the world — 25 to be precise — that are scattered across Europe, Latin America, Australia and Asia; and now they are approaching Africa. However, Mozilla has not confirmed as to when it will be available in the African market, but has said that the time is “coming soon”.
