Valve is known as one of the most successful and innovative software companies around the world. Software is naturally its forte with special focus on gaming. In the past, there have been rumors that Valve may jump in the computer hardware bandwagon soon. It now seems that the company is finally living up to this.
Having created the wildly popular Steam engine for games distribution, Valve is not a new name in the gaming industry. That is precisely why, it has been speculated in the past that Valve may create a ‘Steam Box’ of its own, a viable alternative to the currently available game consoles.
While it would make sense for Valve to release a game console, given the sheer amount of content it can offer through it, the company doesn’t seem to be headed that way. Rather, in a job listing found on the official website, Valve is seeking a ‘industrial engineer.’
The posting clearly indicates that while Valve has been a software company, it is now entering the hardware business and the reason to do so is that it is “frustrated by the lack of innovation in the computer hardware space though,” so it’s jumping in.
This clearly shows that Valve is not taking the traditional route to hardware business. Rather than create the popular and in-demand products for a good start, the company seem to be headed for innovative and unique products from the get-go.
The post further goes on to say, “Even basic input, the keyboard and mouse, haven’t really changed in any meaningful way over the years. There’s a real void in the marketplace, and opportunities to create compelling user experiences are being overlooked.”
