Chinese Firm Plans To Build World’s Tallest Building In 90 Days

Earlier this year, BROAD Sustainable Building (BSB), based in Hunan, successfully built a magnificent 30 storied hotel in 15 days (360 hours). Now that same Chinese construction company BSB, a sister concern of Broad Group, has announced that they are planning to build the world’s tallest building in three months.

At present, China’s tallest building is Shanghai World Financial Center which is 492 meter and the world’s tallest building is ‘Burj Khalifa‘ (formerly known as Burj Dubai) which is situated in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. Burj Khalifa is 2,717 feet (828 meter) high and took about five years to build the exterior of the building. It costed about USD $1.5 billion to build. But now, BSB plans to build even a higher building than Burj Khalifa in three months.

The name of the proposed world’s tallest building is “Sky City (天空城市).” It will be 838 meter (2,750 feet) in height. That means, the proposed Sky City One will be 10 meter (33 feet) higher than Burj Khalifa. The company will build Sky City (天空城市) building in 90 days (three months), which means it will take only one twentieth of the time that the Burj Khalifa. It’ll be a 220 storied building. The building will have 1 million square meters of residential, commercial and retail space, 104 elevators, and capacity for 70,000-120,000 people.

The company plans to start their work in November 2012 and according to the calculation, the building will be completed in January 2013. This could be possible in such short time as BSB has unique construction methods – such as quadruple glazing and 15 centimeter thick exterior walls for thermal insulation. In other word, the secret to the rapid construction is pre-fabrication. Approximately 95% of the building will be put together in modular form. The projected cost for the building is RMB 4 billion (US$628 million or £400 million).
