Toyota Unveils i-Road Concept Vehicle, An Electric Commuter Tricycle

The Geneva Motor Show is just around the corner, where all major vehicle vendors will be showing off their upcoming offerings. Toyota, apparently, has plans of showing off i-Road, a new concept vehicle which is essentially an electric tricycle and seems something straight out of the Tron movie.

Toyota i-Road

Toyota i-Road is something of a hybrid between a motor bike and a small car. It has two wheels in the front which can, interestingly, lean either ways when needed. There’s another rear wheel. It may seem impractical but given the fact that Toyota is positioning it to be an urban vehicle for 30-miles drives at maximum, that makes the concept seem fairly plausible.

The highest speed that i-Road can muster is 30 mph and upon a single recharge, it can go on for 30 miles on end. Both these specifications reveal that this vehicle is meant to be used as a commuter-ride within the neighborhood.

As far as the looks are concerned, i-Road is certainly very stylish. It is 2.35 meters long, a mere 850mm wide and 1.4 meters tall. The weight is also fairly low at 660 lbs. The power for the car is generated with the help of two electric powers installed within, each of which can produce 27 horsepower units.

In all, the concept is fairly novel and Toyota may be able to pitch it well enough in the urban cities. We look forward to hearing more details about the i-Road vehicle at the Geneva Motor Show.
