Archos has started shipping a second version of its 7-inch home tablet (which was released earlier this year). If you’re in Europe or the US (at least), you can now pick up a slightly better version that’s been enhanced with slightly better specs.
The processor gets upgraded from a 600MHz chip (RK2808) to a 800MHz chip (RK2818), still Rockchip based and is capable of running at 1GHz, but is clocked down for better battery life, less heat. There’s an accelerometer now. Android has been updated to 2.1. The touchscreen is still resistive, however.
The Archos 7 Home Tablet v2 also received an accelerometer, and includes a 7-inch (800 x 480) touchscreen, 8GB of built-in storage, a microSDHC card slot, 802.11 b/g WiFi, an USB port and a leg stand. The tablet can be bought in the US for $195 .Amazon sells it too via third party.
Will Archos 7 v2 support installation of Linux ? Android 2.1 means lots of apps…. yes ?
