Verizon has started rolling out the Android 3.2 update for the Motorola Xoom 3G and this HTJ85 update brings some subtle, yet nice features associated with the new OS. You get the Screen Scaling Compatibility Mode with which you can switch to double pixel mode for selected applications and the update patches up the microSD card support, which is for enabling you to use a file manager to view important files, pictures, music, videos and all that’s stored on your SD card, as well as write content to your SD card via connection to a PC or Mac.The new screen-scaling option will let you switch to double pixels mode for selected applications………….
The Motorola XOOM which had recently dropped in price at online retailers such as Amazon is getting an update and Verizon Wireless is putting out a software maintenance update labeled HTJ85. The update will include support for such things as: Screen Scaling Compatibility, SD card support (which will allow viewing of content), Adaptive Streaming support for Movies and other enhancements. Which can only mean a better experience for the tablet user. The Xoom from Motorola has seen other changes as well, from its starting price of under $1000 and the tablet has dropped around 20% or about $200 on the Amazon site. The Motorola XOOM 3G’s that Verizon Wireless has sold for past few months have started to receive the Android 3.2 Honeycomb update named HTJ85. The new update also makes the follow improvements to the software for the XOOM’s from Verizon:
- Adaptive streaming support which adjusts the bit rate of streaming video to perform better with various amounts of bandwidth.
- In rented movies the stability has been improved, and if users are viewing a movie on an external display over a HDMI connection the picture will automatically resize to fit the display better.
- There is a new Enterprise Authentication Service (EAS) policy option for password recovery.
- There have been improvements in Exchange ActiveSync and security.
Each of those improvements come on-top of the changes that come from Android 3.2 that Google worked on. The Android 3.2 Honeycomb new user features are as follows, according to Google:
- Optimizations for a wider range of tablets
- Android 3.2 includes a variety of optimizations across the system to ensure a great user experience on a wider range of tablet devices.
- Compatibility zoom for fixed-sized apps
- Android 3.2 introduces a new compatibility zoom mode that gives users a new way to view fixed-sized apps on larger devices. The new mode provides a pixel-scaled alternative to the standard UI stretching for apps that are not designed to run on larger screen sizes, such as on tablets. The new mode is accessible to users from a menu icon in the system bar, for apps that need compatibility support.
- Media sync from SD card
- On devices that support an SD card, users can now load media files directly from the SD card to apps that use them. A system facility makes the files accessible to apps from the system media store.
