Meebo has been a well-known name in the tech world. It initially started off as an instant-messaging service that was web-based and was able to emulate popular IM services such as Yahoo etc. Now, All Things D has reported that according to unnamed sources, Google is planning to acquire Meebo for $100 million.
Over time, Meebo has been rolling out a number of social products. These products let users indulge in online social interactions in innovative ways. For instance, from emulating popular IM services, Meebo launched a Meebo Bar which would enable developers to offer a number of social interactive tools right on their websites.
Right now, Meebo offers a tool at its home page which helps users “create an interest profile to get new and timely information about the things that matter to you.”
The big news is that according to anonymous sources, Google is eyeing the company and has plans of purchasing it. Meebo, by the way, has been quite strong on funding and so naturally, Google will have to make a really good offer to acquire it. Currently, according to the sources, Google plans on sealing the deal with $100.
Both Meebo and Google haven’t opened up to the rumors surrounding a possible deal and have declined to respond to such news. But we do hope that things will get in the clear quite soon.
