Acquisitions are a norm in the tech world. What is significant about these acquisitions, though, is that they contain hints as to where a tech company is headed. For instance, the search giant, Google has now acquired a mobile productivity company, Quickoffice. Google plans to improve its own apps development through this acquisition.
Quickoffice indeed offers some very powerful tools for the mobile platforms. It enables its user to create and edit Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and Excel documents right on their mobile devices. According to Quickoffice, its software is currently being used by more than 300 million devices!
The CEO and co-founder of Quickoffice, Alan Masarek believes that “by combining the magic of Google’s intuitive solutions with Quickoffice’s powerful products, our shared vision for anytime, anywhere productivity can only grow.”
The chief forte of Quickoffice is the creation of native apps for mobile devices. Google can leverage this strength to further enhance the profile of its native mobile productivity apps. The current users of Quickoffice will still be able to access its apps, despite the acquisition, as has been affirmed by Google.
According to Google, “We’re happy to announce that we have acquired Quickoffice, a leader in office productivity solutions. Today, consumers, businesses and schools use Google Apps to get stuff done from anywhere, with anyone and on any device. Quickoffice has an established track record of enabling seamless interoperability with popular file formats, and we’ll be working on bringing their powerful technology to our Apps product suite.”
