The hype created by the launch of Samsung’s Galaxy S4 smartphone hasn’t died out yet, and critics are busy in determining whether to deem the new smartphone a success or a failure. However, Samsung is not resting and is apparently busy preparing yet another non-Android smartphone, to be launched in third quarter this year.
Samsung has endorsed the Tizen platform for quite some time now and the company has even released some Tizen handsets in the past. However, until now, Tizen has been somewhat of a side-hobby for Samsung and we didn’t see any high-end specs in any of the Tizen smartphones released so far.
That is about to change. Samsung is not only working on a new Tizen phone, this one is going to be a high-end smartphone. According to Samsung’s EVP of mobile, Lee Young Hee, “The Tizen phone will be out in August or September, and this will be in the high-end category. The device will be the best product equipped with the best specifications.”
This revelation is quite interesting, especially because many analysts have stated that Samsung is trying to break free of the Android platform. The company has already demonstrated this by shipping highly customized flavors of Android on its smartphone, rather than sticking with their standard versions.
Following Hee’s statement about an upcoming Tizen phone, a spokesperson for the Tizen Association has stated that by the time this smartphone launches, there will be thousands of apps available for the platform.
