FroYo and apps like Angry Birds on the Barnes & Noble e-reader is possible but it’s not easy : If you install hack Froyo, the Nook recognizes it, but it’ll shut down immediately. Now Barnes & Noble confirms Android 2.2 FroYo update for Nook Color and coming to market in January……..
Barnes & Nook Color e-reader has made it into the headlines when the hacking community showed us that a comparatively cheaper Android Tablet is hiding behind this thin eBook Reader. We have even seen the Angry Birds running on it.The good folks at the hacking community have indeed told us how to get it rooted to have the Android Market and the stuff in the Android 2.2 running. Many who tried this hard way of getting the Froyo enabled in their Nook Color.
Enabling Froyo needed disabling the device’s normal battery monitoring processing. However, it is this normal battery monitoring that helps the Nook Color to find if the batteries are overheating and if so to prevent them from going to a critical stage. Many rooting and hacking guides for the Nook Color had a big banner warning for the less adventurous to wait till an easier way is developed. It came out at last, it seems. Barnes & Noble has recently confirmed the Nook Color will be getting the Android 2.2 treatment in January.
No Android 2.2 for Nook Color in January 2011 as anticipated in this article. Is there any known date when Android 2.2 will suddenly appear on our Nooks? It is now April 7 and the only word around now is “mid-April”.
Anyone know for sure?
The video you used on this page appears to be using a color nook. The question is was this a rooted 2.1 nook or B&N’s beta of their 2.2 model? Question 2 might be when B&N comes out using android 2.2, will they include an block to rooting it?
Thanks, Deac
fruity? pffft… homophobe.
Crap journal. Updates date on article and gives NO new content. Also, the ‘confirmed’ is bogus, no B & N official confirmation can be found.

I just picked up the Nook Color and the guy behind the Nook section told me the release will be here next week.
Hi,
I was in Barnes and Noble today, April 23, 2011 and spoke directly to a representative, she informed me that the update that was originally intended for April, will take effect sometime in May. She specifically mentioned that there would be a new apps upgrade. So there is some validity to the rumor afterall. Just have patience folks.
Typical B&N. Its coming out in April…then May…now it will be October or end of year before we see anything. They kept blowing smoke up the rear before about the updates for the original Nook. Go figure. Should have waited before I purchased this color.
The long-awaited upgrade to the Nook Color is available now. Go to barnesandnoble.com to download the upgrade (called 1.2) using your computer and then by USB placing it into your Nook Color. Or wait for later this week when your Nook Color will upgrade via wireless.
My nook color is rooted will it crash if I install the upgrade? I downloaded to my pc but am not sure if I should or shouldn’t put on my rooted nook.
The update is here. Your NC will automatically start the download in the next couple of weeks. If you don’t want to wait any longer (I didn’t want to) you can download the udpate here http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/nookcolor-support-software-update/379002520 and drag and drop it into the nooks main directory. If you had your nook rooted before and are worried about the update I would recommend reverting to stock and then downloading. The problem here is that there are no updated roots for this newer version. I’m just waiting for someone to write them out and post it somewhere. I miss my old rooted nook.
This video shows a nook color that has FroYo booted on to it. Update 1.2 will not visible change the nooks home screen. Although this is the Update 1.2 it is being updated with android 2.2.
