500 Million Year Old Bacteria Resurrected In GeorgiaTech Laboratory

Using a process called paleo-experimental evolution, Georgia Tech researchers have revived a 500 million year old gene from a bacterium (singular of bacteria) and inserted it into a modern-day Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacterium. This bacterium has now been growing for more than 1,000 generations and may help the scientists better observe the evolution in action.

The Biggest Planet Jupiter Also Has Rings!

In 1979, passing Voyager 1 spacecraft first discovered that the biggest planet of our solar system Jupiter has rings. But their origin was a mystery. Data from the Galileo spacecraft that orbited Jupiter from 1995 to 2003 later confirmed that these rings were created by meteoroid impacts on small nearby moons.

A World Prepared For Earthquakes

We have seen earthquakes happening all over the world, specially in Japan. As it’s not possible to prevent earthquakes so, researchers have been trying for long time to find out a better way of detecting forthcoming earthquakes. So far, there is no system to predict earthquakes, Ananya Mukundan, a student scientist from Michigan using magnetic field sensors is trying to predict earthquakes.

Rare Event Kicks Out Giant Black Hole From Its Home Galaxy

Recently, researchers at NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory have said that they’ve seen evidence of a massive black hole is being ejected from its host galaxy. The ejected black hole is travelling at a speed of several million miles per hour. According to new observations from NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory, the black hole might have collided and merged with another black hole for which it received a powerful recoil kick from gravitational wave radiation.

SpaceX Falcon 9 Rocket Aborted To Launch For Valve Problem

Last Saturday at 4:55 am Eastern US Time (GMT-4) at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in south Florida, a new private rocket SpaceX Falcon 9 which was carrying a commercial cargo ship Dragon capsule for the International Space Station (ISS) had to abort its launch just half-second before the rocket lifted-off. The reason behind this unexpected abort was the a faulty valve that generated excessive pressure.

Highest Resolution Single Image Of Earth Captured By Russian Satellite

We have seen the images of the earth taken by NASA’s 64-megapixel “Blue Marble”. A Russian weather satellite, Elektro-L, has broken that record. Elektro-L has taken a 121-megapixel single image of Earth. As believed by some, the captured image shows the planet in more color and detail compared to previous imagery available.
