The chief claim to fame of the company TAG Heuer is watches. However, the company has long diverted away from its core business of watchmaking and gone into many other businesses. The latest on the list is manufacturing Android smartphones, apparently. TAG Heuer has dished out a release which gives teasing hints about a smartphone themed about racing cars, and probably sharing its looks with them too.

The latest addition to Sony’s Xperia NXT series is Xperia Sola. The Android devices in this line-up from Sony have been fairly cool but they have been far from being top-of-the-range. In fact, the latest addition, Sony Xperia Sola, also falls well short of that line. For instance, it doesn’t run Android ICS nor does it have a very powerful processor. However, it does have finger-free navigation and NFC support.

Amazon is currently the leading online retailer, having a major share of the online market. With the inception of smartphone devices, it had been hoped that we may witness a shift in the market in that people may move from in-site purchases to retailer apps or to alternate retailers rather than the conventional ones. For long, Apple had only one official carrier for its flagship smartphone in China. Recently, Apple was able to finally break a deal with China Telecom and get it on board. Now, iPhone 4S has officially launched with China Telecom, the carrier booking 200,000 pre-orders for the smartphone ahead of the actual launch.

Nokia pretty much stunned the whole world when it unveiled it’s 41-megapixel Carl Zeiss camera. Whereas with that, Nokia definitely topped the contest on megapixels, HTC was able to unveil some of the most powerful smartphone devices during MWC 2012. These HTC smartphones features dual and quad-core processors, Android ICS, HD displays and a lot more. But the fact remains that they were beaten on camera specs by Nokia.

Despite what a number of analysts and researchers would have you believe about Apple working on an iPhone with aluminium back, the reports from a fairly reliable source say that Apple is going to stick to with Gorilla glass for iPhone 5. This has been divulged by Jeremy Horwitz, who has been pretty accurate about his Apple scoops in the past. Jeremy also said that Apple is working on a new iPad ‘Smart case.’

Currently, Apple has one official carrier at China and has nearly sealed a deal with another major mobile carrier in the country. However, the largest carrier in China is China Mobile and Apple hasn’t been able to reach a deal with it yet, though there is hope this may happen soon. What’s interesting is that although the carrier is not iPhone’s official carrier, it has some 15 million subscribers who are using iPhone 4S. Some of these users has problems receiving signals on their devices and Apple responded promptly to resolve this problem.

The Mobile World Congress this year served not only to unveil some of the coolest smartphones, tablets and other devices and technologies, it was also kind of an occasion to socially mix for tech companies. It seems that Microsoft and Zain Group really got on well during the event, so much so that both entered into an agreement that Zain Group would launch Windows Phone devices in Middle East and North Africa regions.

There have been rumors that NSA was contemplating the use of Android devices. Now, personnel from NSA have officially confirmed this. NSA is actually using the modern smartphone devices as an off-the-shelf solution and then modifies and incorporates hardware and software it needs on these devices. It has been confirmed now that NSA is currently using some 100 Motorola Android phones on secure networks, being used by NSA employees under Project Fishbowl.

Huawei has totally rocked it’s who at MWC 2012 by a broad range of LTE products. The crown of the entire event can be said to have gone to Huawei, who unveiled a smartphone which Huawei touted as being ’49% faster than the world’s fastest smartphone.’ And further validated this claim by numerous benchmark tests. With such devices in it’s fold, Huawei naturally has global aspirations. According to an announcement by the company, the LTE mobile products will hit the European and Asian markets by July this year.
