Google May Unveil Android 5.0 Jelly Bean During Third Quarter

We have been hearing about the upcoming OS release from Google, termed Jelly Bean. Google hasn’t given a definite date of the release of Android 5.0 but rumors have it that the company may be planning to unveil the OS during the third quarter this year. The third quarter also features Google I/O, the annual developer conference of Google. And if the rumors be true, Google may actually launch Jelly Bean at the very occasion.

From the rumors that have been reaching us regarding Jelly Bean, it had been speculated that the OS will debut with optimization for tablets, so that tablet users will be able to avail the dual-boot function. But we can’t be very sure of the news since DigiTimes reported earlier that Jelly Bean will come in Q2 and now, this latest reports claims the release date to be in Q3.

Although these news may excite a lot of users, the problem is that not many will get be able to lay their hands on Jelly Bean by the end of the year. In fact, there are doubts as to if most Android users will be able to use Ice Cream Sandwich, the last version, by the end of this year. These doubts are being raised because currently, ICS is available on only 1 to 2 percent of Android devices. The Android vendors have been really slow in rolling out the update.

This also raises the question that whether the release of Jelly Bean during Q3 will be ill-times? That’s because most Android users haven’t even tasted ICS yet. And to hope that Android vendors will update the devices to Jelly Bean when it comes would be a false hope. It would take the vendors quite some time to catch up with Google’s pace and the company perhaps needs to slow down so that development, release and use of Android’s newer versions are somewhat synchronized.

Nonetheless, developers will naturally be excited over the rumors since if the rumors are true, they get to lay their hands on yet another awesome Android update from Google.
