The smartwatch arena is about to become the next tech race as multiple giants gear up to launch their own smartwatch offerings. Apple is rumored to be working on an iWatch already and now, a Samsung VP has confirmed that the Korean electronics-makers is also working on a smartwatch.
Smartwatches aren’t something new – there are already a number of smartwatch products available in the market. However, most of these watches simply serve as a portal for your smartphone or tablet and are able to provide very limited functionality.
So, the real competition is going to be spurred when the likes of Apple and Samsung enter the battle. Both companies have immense resources and research capabilities and they are capable of creating smartwatches which would pack a lot more functionality.
A mobile VP from Samsung has now confirmed that the company is indeed working on a smartwatch of its own. According to him, the company has been working on it for a long while already and putting in considerable efforts. In his words, “We are preparing products for the future, and the watch is definitely one of them.”
While we have the confirmation from Samsung now, Apple has been very quiet about the iWatch rumors. The company has a serious edge over its rivals if it decides to create a smartwatch – that is because Apple’s Siri is touted as the best voice-based personal assistant and its inclusion in a potential iWatch would certainly entice many.
It also depends on the launch time of these products, as Samsung’s Lee Young Hee agrees, “The issue here is who will first commercialize it so consumers can use it meaningfully.”
