Among the tech giants, Samsung is the very first company who launched a smartwatch named Galaxy Gear, keeping Apple and Google behind who had also been working and planning to release their own smartwatch. However, later we came to know that Samsung was making two new smartwatches named the Gear 2 and the Gear 2 Neo. And lately, Samsung has officially unveiled these two smartwatches.
Before I go further I need to tell you one thing – it’s Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo, not the Galaxy Gear 2 or Galaxy Gear 2 Neo. Why? Because the smartwatch Galaxy Gear runs on Android, but Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo smartwatches – both run on Tizen OS instead of Android, meaning the watches have lost the Galaxy branding.
Gear 2 weighs 68 grams and measures 36.9 mm x 58.4 mm x 10.0 mm. It comes with a 1.63-inch Super AMOLED display along with a resolution of 320 x 320-pixel and powered by a dual-core 1.0GHz processor. Besides, it includes 4GB of internal storage, 512MB of RAM, and a 300 mAh battery.
On the other side, Gear 2 Neo weighs 55 grams and measures 37.9 mm x 58.8 mm x 10.0 mm. Like Gear 2, it also comes with a 1.63-inch Super AMOLED display along with a resolution of 320 x 320-pixel and powered by a dual-core 1.0GHz processor. Besides, it includes 4GB of internal storage, 512MB of RAM, and a 300 mAh battery.
Both smartwatches have built-in IrLED sensor and are IP67 certified dust and water resistant. Although, the smartwatches are nearly identical, the Gear 2 features a smaller body-mounted camera than the one found on the original Gear, while the Neo has no lens at all. The Gear 2’s camera can capture higher resolution video and photos at 1920 x 1080-pixel.
Samsung has also added the ability to listen to music without having to bring your smartphone, a huge convenience for fitness-conscious users. These two smartwatches were supposed to be unveiled in April of this year, but all on a sudden, Samsung unveiled the smartwatches and surprised all.
However, both the Gear 2 and Gear Neo will be available in a variety of colors including Charcoal Block, Gold Brown and Wild Orange for the Gear 2, and Charcoal Black, Mocha Grey and Wild Orange for the Gear Neo. There is no mention about the price of the watches.
