Last week, Apple released a major software update for its Apple TV set-top box, which added support for AirPlay Mirroring, Photo Stream and much, much more and the current firmware version for Apple TV is iOS 4.4, but just last night update 4.4.1 was made available. The 4.4 software update put a smile on the face of many Apple TV owners and those thinking of updating are advised not to, as they have been bricking these small devices. The new software was meant to fix a few bug issues, but now seems to have created an entire new one and some 9to5 Mac readers have been going ahead with the update to 4.4.1, as they do not believe that they will have any such issue, which is due to the fact that they never had any problems with the current version……………..

Samsung Again Counter-Attacking Apple

Samsung has renewed its attack on Apple, launching a legal bid to have the new iPhone 4S from store shelves in Japan and Australia and Samsung filed for preliminary injunctions in both countries claiming Apple had infringed several of its patents such as UI, wireless telecoms standards and other technologies. Japan was one of the first countries in the world to sell Apple’s iPhone 4S and in Japan, Samsung also requested that Apple’s iPhone 4 and iPad 2 be blocked from sale……………….

Apple Stores Will Be Closed For Watch Steve Jobs’ Memorial

Apple Stores will reportedly close for one hour on October 19th so that employees can watch the Steve Jobs celebration taking place at Apple Headquarters and Apple has also invited Silicon Valley’s biggest names to a memorial for Steve Jobs on Sunday. Many Stanford students and visitors were completely unaware of the event taking place and according to the Wall Street Journal, small white lights lit up the pathway to the church and guests were served hors d’oeuvres………………..

Apple Begins To Make New iPad 3 Tablets

This is interesting, an analyst is claiming that his supply chain sources are telling him that the iPad 3 is already moving into production and the analyst in question is from Susquehanna Financial, is named Jeff Fidacaro. According to Fidacaro’s checks, Apple has ramped up Q4 iPad orders to between 12 and 14 million up from a planned 11 to 13 million, which tip that the increase is in part due to early production runs of the iPad 3. The iPad 2 landed in March of this year and Apple will undoubtedly sell hoards of the next iPad so getting it into production early makes sense. This increase is due to the production of the iPad 3, whose numbers are between 600,000 to 1 million builds and it’s not hard to imagine seeing the successor to the iPad 2 early 2012…………..

Siri May Be Coming Into Apple TV

Cross Research analyst Shannon Cross thinks that Apple could put Siri into the Apple TV or an Apple branded television and in related news, references to a new Apple TV have been found in iOS 5. Siri, an intelligent voice-controlled personal assistant which debuted with the iPhone 4S and if Apple were to bring the Siri functionality into their set top-box, they would need to issue a hardware refresh because the current-generation Apple TV powered by the A4 processor lacks oomph to run Siri……………………

Apple Begin iPhone 4S Shipment Notices

Apple and Sprint have sent out shipping notifications for the iPhone 4S and it appears that Sprint’s might even arrive early and it iPhone 4S pre-ordered on October 7th are expected to be delivered in time for the launch day – October 14th. The shipping delays that plagued the iPad 2 when it was announced earlier this year are now hitting the iPhone 4S and AT&T sold more than 200,000 iPhone 4S during the first 12 hours of the presales online, making it the most successful launch to date……………….

Apple To Release AirPort Utility For iOS Devices

When users attempt to do this in iOS 5 GM, a pop-up notification notes that an application (called “AirPort Utility”) is required and directs users to an iTunes link that is not yet live. Apple has noted that one of its aims in developing iOS 5 is to make iOS devices PC free and this feature obviously meant that iPhone, iPad and iPod touch owners running iOS 5 could set up an AirPort station without needing to use a computer. A MacTalk forum member noticed that in the W-Fi settings of the latest beta there is a button to Manage this network that prompts you to download the app and earlier betas of iOS 5 let users set up their new AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule directly within the mobile operating system………………..

Android Extends Lead Over Apple

Android has taken a more commanding lead over iOS in the U.S., research firm ComScore is reporting and Android secured 43.7 percent of the U.S. smartphone OS market during the three-month period ended August 2011, jumping 5.6 percentage points from the 38.1 percent market share it had at the end of May. Apple’s iOS platform came in second place with 27.3 percent market share at the end of August and in the three-month period ended May, Apple’s operating system secured 26.6 percent of the U.S. smartphone OS market. Apple is now further ahead of RIM by 7.6 points, a gap that’s been steadily widening as the BlackBerry maker continues to lose market share, mostly attributed to its customers converting to Android devices and when it comes to smartphone manufacturers, Samsung and Apple are the only two seeing more consistent growth over the last few months……………..
