Google Introduced Fixes For “High-Risk” Security Holes In Its Chrome Browser

Google has shelled out another $7,000 in bounties to acquire and fix multiple high-risk security holes in its Chrome browser and Google Chrome version 12.0.742.112 addresses security vulnerabilities that expose users to remote code execution attacks. Chrome Stable channel has been updated to 12.0.742.112 for all platforms and contains an updated version of Adobe Flash……….

Google Exposing Phone Locations Visible On Web

Google has taken steps to limit the disclosure of the locations of WiFi Devices and the move by Google comes after the Mountain View, Calif.-based company was criticized for the way it made a database assembled by Android phones and Street View cars available to the public, even though it could link a geographical location with a unique hardware address of a Wi-Fi enabled device. The change means that Google now appears to be moving closer to the approach adopted by Apple and Microsoft and it wasn’t immediately clear what changes Google made to provide more privacy protections. The database is used to speed up geolocation fixes for mobile devices and to provide the ability to determine location for PCs that don’t have access to GPS-derived coordinates………..

FTC Investigating Google

Google confirmed that the Federal Trade Commission was looking into the company’s business practices and has posted a response to the U.S. government’s antitrust inquiry into the company, somewhat defiantly suggesting that the investigation is misguided. The inquiry has the potential to turn into the biggest showdown between the United States government and a major technology company. The investigation will not necessarily lead to accusations of misconduct against the company and it could become the most serious antitrust challenge for Google to date……….

Apple Bid Against Google

U.S. antitrust regulators gave Apple approval to buy certain assets to be sold by bankrupt telecom maker Nortel Networks Corp and the patents cover wireless, data and optical networking, voice, Internet, semiconductors and other technologies. Google offered more than $900 million for the patent portfolio from the bankrupt Canadian telecom-equipment maker in April and would be given the right to terminate Nortel’s existing agreements if it acquires the patents……….
