Microsoft, Apple, Ericsson, RIM, Sony and EMC – The Whole Consortium Outbids Google Of Nortel Telecommunications Patents

Nortel Networks announced that it had sold its juggernaut patent portfolio to a consortium made up of the likes of Apple, Microsoft, and RIM for a hefty sum of $4.5 billion cash and Sony, Ericsson, and EMC will now have access to more than 6,000 patents that relate to all manner of technologies, including 4G LTE wireless capabilities, Wi-Fi, semiconductors, and social networking. Each company in the consortium could have paid $750 million each, significantly less than Google’s original $900 million bid and it is not clear if each company contributed equally or will equally share in ownership of the patents in question………….

Google’s Chrome OS Has Bugs

Researchers find flaws in Google Chrome OS systems and this flaws could undermine Google’s focus on security of Chrome-powered devices. Google responded to the news of the flaw in rapid fashion and fixed it, but the WhiteHat Security researcher found other instances of the same flaw in other applications soon after. Google Chrome OS gives extensions sweeping rights to access data stored on the cloud and the trusted extensions would be trusting another website, it means Google has to clamp down on extensions………..

Google+ Blocked in China

It has just been a day since the launch of Google’s very own social network, Google+. And surprisingly, its already banned in China. Guardian reports that Google+ is blocked by the Great Firewall of China just like other social networks including Facebook and Twitter, and users in China also reported that they are unable to open the newly launched social network.

Oracle Claiming $2.6 Billion From Google For Android’s Alleged Infringement

Oracle is seeking $2.6 billion in damages from Google as part of its patent infringement lawsuit over Java and in the latest filing in the case between the two California tech giants, Oracle revealed it was seeking $0.9 billion to $1.4 billion upfront from Google for infringing its patents. Oracle is entitled to damages based on a number of grounds, including advertising revenues from Android phones and Android has been used on more than 310 devices and now has the largest share of the smartphone market……….

Google Teams Up With Virgin America To Provide Free WiFi In The Cloud

Google is joining forces with Virgin America to allow flight passengers to test-fly the new Chromebook computers for free and Airline passengers will be allowed to use the computers during their flight and even at select airport gates starting from July 1 through September 30, 2011. For passengers who borrow the Chromebook, they will receive a free WiFi session onboard Virgin America and at airport gates in San Francisco, Chicago O’Hare, Boston and in Dallas-Fort Worth will consist of Google Chrome Zone lounges beginning this week…………
