Even if Apple iOS is still toping the lists of every survey done this year, this is not what is going to happen in the next 12 months according to a study done by the research firm Ovum, who has been in charge of bringing comprehensible analysis to the masses for some time now.
Based on a developer survey, Ovum predicts that Android will become the number 1 priority for developers, kicking iOS off the throne, as early as next year. The Android just moves a lot faster in the hardware department and it’s not likely it will be stopped easily. Apple will be following pretty close by of course, with smartphones like the BlackBerry and Windows Phone tagging along.
Android has been spreading like measles and has been incorporated in a large variety of tablets ranging from the Amazon Kindle Fire to the Samsung Galaxy Tab, so it’s no wonder. Yes, some problems need to be taken care of, but we’re pretty sure that Google research team will probably figure them out.
Ovum also highlighted the growing interest of developers for the Windows Phone and BlackBerry: “The growing momentum behind Windows Phone indicates that Microsoft has managed to convince developers that its platform is worthy of investment; its challenge now is to persuade consumers,” commented Ovum analyst Adam Leach.
