Online video service Hulu officially launched a monthly subscription service Hulu Plus on November 17, 2010. Like the free version of Hulu, the videos available on Hulu Plus also contain commercials, but offers a larger content library. It grabbed huge subscribers in short time. Do you know how many people are subscribed to Hulu Plus so far? It’s more than 3 million subscribers.
Hulu has increased its catalog of movies and TV shows by over 40% over the past two years and currently has more than 430 content partners providing more than 60,000 TV episodes from 2,300 different series. So this service rapidly started to grab people’s attention. Within a short time it collected a massive subscriber base. In November 2010, Hulu had 500,000 users. But two months later, on January 2011, the number was 1.5 million. Yesterday, Hulu CEO Jason Kilar announced that the streaming service now has more than 3 million paying subscribers, a number which is more than doubled since last year.
Last year, Hulu Plus launched its service for the Apple TV, Nintendo Wii and Wii U, Windows 8 tablets, and many Android-based devices. Last Monday Kilar revealed that Hulu Plus can now be accessed from more than 320 million Internet connected devices in the U.S. (laptop and desktop computers are not included). He also iterated last year Hulu earned just over $400 million, but this year’s revenue of Hulu will grow about 65 percent that will enable the company to earn $695 million.
