Apple has been adding minor tweaks to the overall interface of its App Store on a weekly basis. You may have seen the ‘Featured’ page on the store and now, Apple has introduced similar Featured pages for all categories, highlighting a number of third-party apps.
Apple has been fairly active in helping out the affectees of Hurricane Sandy in the wake of the disaster that the storm wrecked in a number of U.S. states. The company has now announced a rather huge sum as a donation to go to the Red Cross.
FaceTime calls are a vastly popular feature on both iPhone and iPad. Now that it is possible to make video calls on cellular networks, it has gained all the more traction. However, apparently Apple infringed a few patents in creating the feature and now has to cough up some $368 million for doing so.
When Apple released iOS 6 with its own Maps and essentially eradicated Google Maps from the new iteration, it was a major disaster. The new Maps were no good as they lacked some of the most basic features. Consequently, Apple had to issue apologies and direct iPhone users to use viable alternatives. Nonetheless, Apple may still refuse to accept a Google Maps app whenever it is released.
With its boatload of apps for iOS devices, Google has clearly made encroachments into Apple’s ecosystem. The question is, how will this battle between the two play out?
Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, has been doing a fairly good job in sustaining the legacy of the late Steve Jobs. However, he lacks a creative vision. to fill in that void, Cook has chosen Sir Jonathan Paul “Jony” Ive.
Apple has, for long, relied on Intel to furnish the processors that go into its Mac machines. The mutual relationship between the two companies dates back to 2005 but Apple may now be thinking of ending it by creating chips based on its own design.
Apple and Motorola Mobility have been locked in a legal battle which is starting to heat up now. As Google acquired Motorola Mobility so it is now become Apple Vs Google lawsuit. Although Apple offered to pay $1 per iPhone to Motorola for using its patents, Motorola is demanding 2.25 percent of the overall profits. Apple filed a lawsuit against that but a federal judge in Wisconsin dismissed it.
